Marie Buskey Obituary

Marie Mack Buskey was born to Rose Ann Mack and William “Jack” Slaton, in Bluffton, Georgia, on August 13, 1938.  On Thursday, November 16, 2023, God returned this living legacy unto Himself.

Marie attended schools in Early County, Georgia, graduating from Washington High School in Blakely, Georgia, in 1956.  While there, she was a majorette, active in the 4-H Club, and Miss Washington High. After graduation, she moved to New York where she met and married Aaron Buskey Sr., who preceded her in death. To this union four children were born.

Marie was a wonderful wife and mother who loved her family dearly. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy.  She was loving, patient, kind and always willing to share nuggets of wisdom, especially with her grandchildren.  Caring for others was her passion from a very young age.   She would often share stories of how she cared for her grandmother Hassie, running long distances to find medical assistance for her when needed.  Her compassion for others didn’t end there as she took care of many family members and friends.  She was loved and admired in the communities where she lived and served.

Employed by Palmetto Sash Door Company, Marie was the first female window glazer in Orangeburg, South Carolina.  While proud of her work accomplishments, she later chose to follow her passion for caring for others and began her rewarding career as a certified nursing assistant at Jolly Acers Nursing Home. She loved her patients, and they loved her. She remained employed by Jolly Acers until her retirement.

An active and faithful member of St. Luke Presbyterian Church for many years, Marie served communion, served on the usher board, and sang in the choir. She obeyed God’s commandments by serving others. “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart”. “Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself”.  Matthew 22:37,39.  She knew that when she served others, she served God.

Marie was an awesome cook and baker (no recipes needed here) -- talents she passed on to her children and grandchildren.  She was an excellent seamstress and could seemingly fix anything. She also loved playing tic-tac-toe with her children and grandchildren and enjoyed solving seek-n-find puzzles.

Marie is survived by four children, Janette B. Harrow (Kenneth), Denton, Texas; Barbara A. Buskey, Savannah, Texas; Allen J. Buskey Sr., Pooler, Georgia; Cynthia M. Buskey, Fairburn, Georgia; her stepchildren whom she loved dearly, Aaron Buskey Jr. (Linda), Orangeburg, South Carolina; Shirley Stevenson, Columbia, South Carolina; and Sharon Bowe (Robert), Fayetteville, Georgia;  grandchildren Jasmin S. Jackson, Nile M. Brown (Joanie), Evan J. Brown, Corey R. Buskey, Allen J. Buskey Jr., several great-grandchildren, and step-grandchildren; her siblings, Hattie M. Moton (Johnny), Albany, Georgia; James Bailey (Rosa), Hollis, New York; Betty J. Roberts, Albany, Georgia; Carol A. Bailey, Mesquite, Texas; and Sterling Bailey, Newport News, Virginia, and  a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  One sister Jane Bailey, and two stepchildren, Robert Buskey and Thomas Buskey preceded her in death.
