Isaac McKissick Obituary

Isaac Vincent McKissick was born June 7, 1958, to Rosabell Mckissick. Isaac matriculated the Union County School system attending Sims Junior High School and Union High School. He then attended the United States Military Academy at West Point and graduated in June 1979 as the youngest member of the graduating class.  He furthered his education by earning two master’s degrees in engineering management and Applied Economics. Following graduation from West Point, he was commissioned an Infantry Lieutenant in the United States Army. His assignments included Fort Campbell, Kentucky and Fort Hood Texas.   He left the Army and joined corporate America where he worked for General Dynamics as an Operations Research Analyst only to move to General Motors where he served in a number of ever-increasing positions. He then returned to General Dynamics before returning to South Carolina. Living a lifelong dream of shaping young people through education, he joined the Spartanburg School District as Director School Partnerships. His most recent position was as the Campus Director for the Spartanburg Community College – Union Campus from which he retired. Always active in the community, he founded the Union County Opportunity Fair for which he received an award from the South Carolina Department of Education.  He also founded the One Union non-profit to develop affordable housing. Always mentoring and teaching.  As such he has never met a stranger.  A proud member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, a Prince Hall Mason and Shriner.

He is survived by his mother Rosabell McKissick, his nephew Milton E. Mckissick and a host of Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and a multitude of loving friends.  He is preceded in death by his brother Milton McKissick (Lois).
