Cleophus Bernard Watson, affectionally known as “Cleo” was born on February 28, 1939, in Clemmons, North Carolina. He was born to Mr. George and Mrs. Mary Watson, and he entered eternal rest on May 11, 2022 at Spartanburg Regional Memorial Center.
Cleophus joined Hickory Grove A.M.E. Zion Methodist Church in Clemmons, NC, at an early age. He attended the Winston-Salem school system and later attended Electronics Institute Incorporated in Detroit, Michigan, and on November 21, 1958, he received a diploma as an Electronics Technician. He also attended Electronics Institute in Detroit, Michigan, and received his degree as an Engineer. He joined the United States Air Force in 1962, serving four years.
Cleophus was married to Ms. Maggie Green of Union, South Carolina on October 14, 1961, from this union, Sabrina Marie was born. He was employed at the Ford Motor Company for over 30 years as an Electrical Engineer, where he advanced to Supervisor. At Ford Motor Company, Cleophus was also part of a team of engineers that was one of the first to advance and renovate the electric car.
Cleophus loved his family, gardening, and collecting rare coins. He was a beautiful and funny person who enjoyed talking and joking with everyone. He held a special place in his heart for his family, he looked forward to all family events.
Cleophus was preceded in death by his parents: George and Mary Watson of Clemmons, North Carolina; two sisters, Adelle Watson of Winston Salem, North Carolina and Sarah Watson of Clemmons, North Carolina; and in-laws Carry and Lillie Green of Union, South Carolina and two sisters-in-law, Peggie Ann Green of Union, South Carolina and Sarah Lewis of Charlottesville, Virginia.
Cleophus was survived by his wife, Maggie Watson of the home; daughter, Sabrina Brown both of Chesnee, South Carolina, three brothers, Clarence Watson (Gladys), Henry Watson (Tammy) all of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and Jerome Watson (Patricia) of Clarksville, Virginia; one sister, Verdell Watson of Clemmons, North Carolina and one sister-in- law, Carolyn Free (William) of Orangeburg, South Carolina, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends
